ACC Football Power Rankings 2017: Clemson takes over top spot
By Dana Becker
It’s difficult to remember when Syracuse was a potential bowl team, as the Orange have dropped five in a row and will miss out on the postseason.
The highlight of the season came when Syracuse upset Clemson inside the Carrier Dome. They finished the season just 4-8 overall and 2-6 in the Atlantic division, placing them dead-last.
It was a disappointing end to the season for North Carolina this past weekend, as they lost at NC State. The Tar Heels won just three games this season and went 1-7 in league action.
One positive from the lost season was sophomore quarterback Nathan Elliott, as he came on against Miami and finished out the year throwing for over 235 yards in his last three games.
Elliott had four touchdown passes in a win over Western Carolina and threw for a season-high 277 yards vs. NC State.
Three consecutive losses to end the season have Virginia sitting at 6-6. The good news is, the Cavaliers are going bowling, but they could have been headed towards a much nicer destination.
Virginia had no answer for Virginia Tech last weekend, failing to find the end zone and amassing just 191 yards of total offense.
In eight league games, the Cavaliers scored just 161 points.
It would have been easy for Duke to give up on the season, but the Blue Devils responded over the final two weeks.
Thanks to a 31-23 victory over Wake Forest in the regular season finale, Duke reached six wins and will likely be competed in the postseason once more.
The Blue Devils finished just 3-5 in the ACC, the same as Pittsburgh and Virginia.
