1. The Tigers have unprecedented success

Believe it or not, but Auburn has done something that no other team in the College Football Playoff era has accomplished. What’s that? The Tigers are the only team in the playoff era to ever beat two No. 1 teams in the same season. For that reason, along with quality wins, the Tigers have earned this No. 2 spot in the poll despite having two losses.

This might be the first time in the playoff era that a two-loss team makes the playoff and it wouldn’t be all that surprising given the strength of the Tigers’ wins.

Auburn has beaten Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi State and Texas A&M. As mentioned earlier, their only two losses have come on the road against LSU and Clemson — two teams ranked in the playoff rankings for this week.

Not many teams in recent memory can claim the same type of success Auburn has and the Tigers have passed the eye test over the past couple of months. After a slow start to the season, the Tigers look like true title contenders.
