5. Charlie Brewer gives the Baylor offense potential

Baylor’s quarterback situation steadily got better as the year went along. The Bears started out with former Arizona Wildcats transfer Anu Solomon getting the nod. Yet, Solomon was the starter for the embarrassing losses to Liberty and UTSA.

After Solomon underwent concussion protocol and ended up ultimately leaving the program, sophomore Zach Smith took the reigns. Smith was the quarterback that led the Bears down the stretch, and to a Cactus Bowl win over the Boise State Broncos in 2016.

There were a few good outings for Smith, with a 463 passing yards and four touchdown performance being the highlight of his year. However, Smith would not win a single one of his five starts and would hit the bench in place of freshman quarterback Charlie Brewer.

In five starts, Brewer did win the only game of the year for the Bears. He finished the season with 11 passing touchdowns and only four picks. Brewer also did not have a single game where he tossed more interceptions than touchdowns. Moreover, with Smith recently announcing his transfer from the program, this is Brewer’s offense for the taking from here on out.
