12. Tom Allen, Indiana

  • 2017 record: 5-7 (2-7)
  • 2018 B1G recruiting class rank: 10 of 14

No. 12 and 13 with Tom Allen and Durkin where virtually a coin flip. Another first coach, Allen was the type of coach teams and fans hated playing against because he treated every play like the game was on the line.

There was vast improvement in one season under Allen simply by looking at the eye test. The Indiana Hoosiers were not blessed with an easy schedule like some of their conference counterparts and had to go up against a ranked Ohio State, Penn State, Michigan State, Michigan, and Wisconsin in five of their first six conference games.

Despite this, the Hoosiers still had a chance to reach bowl eligibility heading into the regular season finale, but ended up falling short on the road against arch-rival Purdue by one score.

The schedule will not ease up all that much next season as playing in the Big Ten East guarantees several formidable opponents, but with how competitive and close the Hoosiers were last year against big time teams, it should not be long until they are actually pulling off upsets and spoiling teams’ seasons.
