Big Ten Football: Power Ranking every Big Ten coach
7. Jim Harbaugh, Michigan
- 2016 record: 10-3 (7-2)
- 2017 record: 8-5 (5-4)
- 2018 B1G recruiting class rank: 3 of 14
The interesting thing to remember about power rankings is that they do not reflect overall body of work or account for tenure, but instead observe the most current analysis possible.
Michigan Wolverines head coach Jim Harbaugh currently ranks as the third highest paid coach in the NCAA and when he came to Ann Arbor that was understandable move. Hindsight, however, indicates otherwise as the Wolverines are without any Big Ten championship appearances or major bowl wins since he took over and their best season with him leading the way, the team closed out the year losing three out of four. Not to mention he is winless against his arch-rival Ohio State
The Wolverines were one of two teams in power five conferences in 2017 to fail to record a team over a winning record. Michigan ended up finishing fourth in the East division and were the only Big Ten team to not win a bowl game as they fell to South Carolina 26-19 in the Outback Bowl.
To Harbaugh’s and the team’s defense, the Wolverines were banged up at times throughout the year and boasted one of the youngest teams in the nation. With a big-time recruiting class coming in and a ton of talent returning, there will be no more excuses for Harbaugh moving forward. A lot will be said in the next few years on Harbaugh’s future with the Wolverines.
