Alabama. 7. player. 48. Pick Analysis. Defensive Back. Minkah Fitzpatrick. Scouting Report

Needs: DE, CB, RB

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers need to improve their defensive backfield and there’s no better way to bolster it than by drafting hard-hitting, uber-athletic safety/cornerback Minkah Fitzpatrick. Fitzpatrick has size, speed, and power where he can play over a tight end and jam them. He can cover a speedy slot receiver or he can play centerfield and hawk down interceptions.

Fitzpatrick is a big hitter in the run game and a playmaker when the football is in the air. Tampa is in a ‘now or never’ mode regarding head football coach Dirk Koetter, and franchise quarterback Jameis Winston. And that’s if Winston is cleared of yet another accusation of sexual harassment, this time by a female Uber driver. If Winston is cleared, he and Koetter have to make a playoff run in order to keep their jobs.

2018 is the final year of Winston’s rookie contract and Tampa Bay might be willing to let him go between his off-field incidents and his on-field roller coaster play. The situation is complex, but sitting at seven its unlikely that the Bucs reach on another quarterback, instead they’ll opt for a safe, but dominant defender.
