2018 NFL Mock Draft: Complete first round after pro days, trades
Needs: QB, OT, RB
The Buffalo Bills are making draft moves to jump up to the second overall pick and draft a quarterback. The Bills have traded Tyrod Taylor to the Cleveland Browns and are positioning themselves to get a young franchise quarterback. The Bills haven’t had a true face of the franchise since Jim Kelly retired in the 1990’s. Since then, it’s been a revolving door of veterans and rookies that haven’t panned out for the Bills.
The Bills won’t have to run out and start their draft pick right away, either. This is why I think they will select Josh Allen, the quarterback from Wyoming, with the second overall selection. Allen has NFL size at 6-foot-5 and 235 pounds and a cannon for an arm.
Where Allen struggles is at accuracy and in his polish, which is what sitting a year or two behind AJ McCarron will help. McCarron is a heady quarterback that is a former national champion and uses his intelligence to overcome his pedestrian athleticism. That is the aspect of the game Allen really needs to improve – his football IQ and decision making.
The Bills have had to give up both of their first round picks to get into the second overall selection, but in order to get a quarterback of the future it seems like they feel it’s necessary.
