5. Texas is the better team

On paper, Texas is the better team which makes for the most obvious reason why they can win this game. The Longhorns are preseason ranked as the No. 23 team in the nation while the Terrapins enter the matchup unranked.

Ironically, Texas was also preseason ranked as the No. 23 team when it fell in the shootout of last year’s contest with Maryland.

Once again, the odds are stacked (literally) in Texas’s favor. According to oddshark.com, the Longhorns are favored by 13.5 points and the projected final score will swing the way of the burnt orange by a final of 31.4-11.8.

Texas might be overshadowed this season competing with the likes of Oklahoma, West Virginia and TCU, who are all predicted to finish ahead of them in ESPN’s Big 12 power rankings. However, an out-of-conference victory against a Big Ten team such as Maryland could provide for a confidence-boosting victory to kick off the 2018 season.
