ACC Football 2018: Midseason awards and superlatives
Biggest disappointment
After our brief history lesson in the introduction, the biggest disappointment has to be the work that Willie Taggart has done so far at FSU. The Seminoles hired Taggart away from the Oregon Ducks to stabilize a program that was falling apart as Jimbo Fisher arranged his $75 million deal with Texas A&M. Taggart, a known salesman on the recruiting trail, gave much-needed life support to national signing day bringing in the nation’s 11th ranked recruiting class in short time.
However, on the field the Seminoles have looked lethargic and desperate. FSU has lost games to Virginia Tech, Syracuse, and Miami while barely escaping FCS level Samford with a 36-26 victory. The ‘Noles defense has played very well while the offense, Taggart’s side of the football, has sputtered. The former Western Kentucky quarterback has put the nation’s 115th ranked offense onto the field per the S&P+. The defense is ranked 25th while the Seminoles as a team are a lowly 69th in the nation with a 3-3 record.
FSU is on the verge of missing the post-season in 2018. In 2017, the ‘Noles made up a game canceled due to severe weather and that allowed FSU to finish the regular season 6-6 and make a bowl appearance. This season FSU will have to win three more games, and are the underdog in five of their six remaining football games.
The biggest disappointment of 2018 is easily Taggart’s first season in Tallahassee.
