ACC Football Power Rankings: Clemson still the top dog after Week 8

The Cavaliers haven’t been viewed as a threat for most of the season, but with back to back victories over Miami and Duke, two of the teams everyone figured would challenge for the ACC title, it looks like Virginia could make more noise in ACC title chase. The defense was able to shut down Duke’s rushing attack and that helped set the tone for the game. Virginia should become bowl eligible after this week’s game against North Carolina and continue to climb up the standings in the division.

With star quarterback Eric Dungey benched for the game, Syracuse turned to their backup quarterback Tommy DeVito to get the victory over UNC in overtime. He finished the game 11 for 19 with three touchdown passes including the game-winner in overtime. The Orange face another tough test in North Carolina State this week, and the Wolfpack will look to get back on track after falling to Clemson this weekend.

This game could have put North Carolina State in the driver seat for the college football playoff. A win over Clemson and then a win in the ACC title game would have put an undefeated NC State into the playoff for sure. Instead, fans will have to wonder what could have been – after the beating Clemson game to North Carolina State over the weekend. The Wolfpack couldn’t do anything on offense and will look to put up points against Syracuse this weekend at home.
