No. 7 Maine Black Bears defeats No. 2 Weber State Wildcats
The first semifinalist was determined in Ogden on Friday night, as No. 2 Weber State hosted No. 7 Maine at Stewart Stadium. Proving to be a defensive battle all around, the Black Bears won 23-18 on the road despite gaining just 286 total yards of offense and taking 11 penalties to back up 93 yards along the way.
Weber State quarterback Jake Constantine had no answer for the Black Bears secondary, as he made poor reads and threw four interceptions on the day. Constantine finished just 24-of-52 for 272 yards, throwing two touchdowns but unable to generate much downfield productivity. Maine forced the Wildcats to play one-dimensional football, as the hosts finished one yard in the negative in net rushing.
Ramon Jefferson led the way rushing for Maine, finishing with 88 yards and a score on 15 carries. Black Bears quarterback Chris Ferguson went 15-of-30 for 170 yards with two touchdowns and a pick to lead the visitors to victory.
