UCLA Football: 3 reasons 4-star QB Jayden Daniels should commit to Bruins
1. Daniels could provide a domino-effect for UCLA’s 2019 class
Chip Kelly needs a headliner for his 2019 recruiting class as the Bruins have gotten off to a slow start in this recruiting cycle.
Currently, UCLA only has 10 guys committed to this class with only a single blue chip prospect in four-star offensive tackle Sean Rhyan. If Kelly wants to win at the level he won at in Eugene, which was expected upon his hiring in Westwood, then he’ll have to get the ball rolling on the recruiting trail, where early returns have been lukewarm at best.
This is his first full recruiting class, and in order to build momentum at UCLA, he needs to put together a good class in this cycle.
At the moment, UCLA sits No. 68 nationally in recruiting in the 247Sports composites, which ranks 10th in the PAC-12. The Bruins won’t be at a championship level anytime soon without recruiting at a much better rate, and it’s fair to wonder whether Kelly can recruit without the big backing of Nike at Oregon.
If Kelly can land Daniels’ commitment, the blue-chip QB could become the spokesman for the 2019 UCLA class as they look for a strong finish between now and National Signing Day in February.
Daniels could become part of the recruiting class that gets the ball rolling in Westwood, while playing in a system that is very friendly to dual-threat quarterbacks.
UCLA may be lagging a little bit behind to earn his signature, but the Bruins still make the most sense for the highly sought-after quarterback.
