West Virginia Football 2019 Mock Draft: Where will the Mountaineers land?
By Phil Poling
“With the 147th pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select Yodny Cajuste, offensive tackle, West Virginia University.”
It’s been a downward-trending draft process for the 2018 Big 12’s Co-Offensive Lineman of the Year, as Cajuste underwent surgery to repair his quad muscle in late March. He’s been sidelined with injuries in the past (2015 and 2016 seasons; both knee injuries), but he’s expected to miss only three months recovering from surgery, setting his return right around training camp.
Even with the injuries, Cajuste started 30 career games for West Virginia at left tackle – and this was after being ranked a 2-star recruit out of high school. He didn’t arrive in Morgantown at 6-foot-5 and 321 lbs., but those are excellent measurements heading into the NFL. Coupled with his length and physicality, Cajuste would be a first round pick if not for the injury history. If he slides past the third round, whoever takes a flier on him will not regret it.
The Bills could use a player of Cajuste’s caliber, too, especially to protect their prized-asset at quarterback, Josh Allen. He showed flashes of what the future holds during his rookie campaign, but the Bills ranked 30th in total offense in 2018. Adding playmakers around him is a must, but a layer of protection on Allen’s blindside would certainly comfort the face of the franchise.
