3. Replacing Hunter Renfrow’s production, leadership

Hunter Renfrow was certainly not the most talented player to walk the halls of Clemson, nor will his statistical career be considered among the best ever. But his true and lasting impact couldn’t be measured on the stat sheets as he carved out a truly unique legend during his five-year college career – one that was highlighted with a clutch last-second catch against Alabama to secure Clemson’s first championship since 1981.

That being said, Renfrow still provided plenty on the field. He served as the most reliable of Trevor Lawrence’s bounteous receiving options. When Clemson needed a third-down conversion, Renfrow somehow came through more often than not. He was pesky, tough and crafty.

Leadership in a college locker rooms comes at a premium, and Hunter provided a stable influence for the receiving unit and the young Trevor Lawrence.

Now, with Renfrow in the NFL, the coaching staff will be tasked with finding their next sure-handed slot receiver. As it stands, the production looks set to be handled through group effort between Amari Rodgers, Derion Kendrick, Cornell Powell and T.J. Chase. Though he is expected to start, Rodgers is coming off an injury and may need time to get back to speed.

No matter who owns the most talent, identifying the next leader will be just as vital for the Tigers in 2019. It can’t be underestimated how important having a player of Renfrow’s stature can be to guide a team to greatness.
