Can Purdue slow down opponents in 2019?

Let’s face it, 2018 was not a good year defensively for Purdue football, primarily because it lost seven starters from the season prior.

But the narrative heading into 2019 is the complete opposite as the Boilermakers look to build off last season’s experience, returning almost every starter.

Standout linebacker Markus Bailey headlines the Purdue defense, returning for his final season in the black and gold. But experience isn’t the only thing contributing to their promising defense as the Boilermakers picked up some key acquisitions in the offseason through recruiting and the transfer portal.

Even if there are some struggles for Purdue defensively, all they need to do is make some crucial stops late in games and force turnovers to give their high-flying offense more opportunities to score. Sounds pretty cliche, but with the potential of the Boilermakers’ offense, it really is just that simple for the defense.

Look for Purdue’s defense to make a stand early on in the season as they set out to prove that they are more than just an offensive power.

Can the Purdue defense hold the line or will their tough schedule be too much to withstand?
