Pieces falling into place on offense

It’s starting to sort itself out — the offense that is. Chad Morris knows offense and the pieces are starting to fit in the right places.

The quarterback battle has whittled itself down between two transfer quarterbacks: SMU transfer Ben Hicks and Texas A&M transfer Nick Starkel. The situation couldn’t be more ideal since both quarterbacks can serve as a bridge for the future. Morris likes recruit KJ Jefferson for the future, so Hicks or Starkel could give him time to absorb the offense.

Whoever is throwing the ball has good young talent around him.

Leading receiver La’Michael Pettway transferred to Iowa State, but the Hogs have some good young receivers including sophomore Michael Woods. Chad Morris and offensive coordinator Joe Craddock have their eyes on a crop of recruits at receiver. They are hoping Treylon Burks, Trey Knox, and TQ Jackson can develop into elite pass catchers.

The offensive line needs some work returning only two starters from last season. They are talented at running back, with the trio of Devwah Whaley, Rakeem Boyd and Chase Hayden.
