For Auburn, at least they re-enter the SEC schedule against one of the lower-tier teams in the conference. Arkansas finished 2-10 last season, and went winless in SEC play.

The obvious subplot in this matchup is the flirtations between Gus Malzahn and Arkansas. With Malzahn on the hot seat, that could reemerge if things go south on the plains, and if things don’t improve in Fayetteville.

There’s a slight look-ahead potential here, but the Tigers should win this game. Malzahn’s team is the far more talented squad. Against a poor defensive team, this could be a pivotal positive game for whichever freshman is starting at quarterback.

This matchup has a wild history, which includes a four-overtime Razorback victory in 2015. Auburn, however, has won the last three games in this series, and they’ve done so in dominant fashion.

Prediction: Win (5-2, 2-2)
