1. The Bearcats dominated in the trenches

The trenches were a question mark coming into this season because of the lack of experience. The defensive line lost two interior linemen to the NFL draft, and the offensive line returned only one starter back from last years squad. In fact, this year’s offensive line features an offensive tackle from Germany and a guard who was a former amateur hockey player.

On defense, the Bearcats only allowed 1.7 yards per rush in tonight’s game against the Bruins, and sacked Thompson-Robinson once and pressured him consistently throughout the entire game.

Although they didn’t have Joshua Kelley, UCLA just couldn’t get the running game going at all. The Bearcats’ defensive line seemed to give the Bruins fits along their offensive line all night tonight.

The offensive line got off to a bit of a slow start which was to be expected given the lack of experience on the entire line, but got into a rhythm as the game wore on. Desmond Ridder had time to throw most of the night and he took advantage of that.
