Virginia is 2-0 for the first time since 2012 after taking down William & Mary 52-17 on Friday night in Charlottesville. The Cavaliers hovered on the edge of the AP Top 25 after their season-opening win against Pittsburgh, and they will almost certainly jump up into the Top 25 proper after the blowout of the Tribe.

Bryce Perkins put in a solid night of work for the Cavaliers, going 16-of-26 in the air for 192 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. His backup, Brennan Armstrong, added another 103 yards on 9-of-10 passing. They also benefitted from a strong running game led by Mike Hollins. The freshman running back finished with 72 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 11 carries, as Virginia combined to total 216 rushing yards and three ground scores.

One area where Virginia does still need to get better is protecting the football. The Cavaliers coughed up three interceptions and lost a fumble over the course of Friday’s festivities, including a pick that was returned 47 yards for a touchdown. That wasn’t enough to doom Virginia against an FCS opponent, but they need to limit giveaways moving forward if they hope to compete in the ACC.

Next week, Florida State comes to Scott Stadium for an interdivisional showdown. The Cavaliers will hope to keep up their winning ways and consolidate their newfound position in the AP Top 25 against a Seminoles team still struggling in their second season under Willie Taggart.
