ACC Football Power Rankings, Week 8: Clemson back on track
By Dante Pryor
The Cardinals are playing as well as any team outside of Clemson right now. They traded their football cleats for track spikes and won a 4×1 relay against Wake Forest 62-59 — in regulation by the way. Whether it be Micale Cunningham or Evan Conley, head coach Scott Satterfield has two quarterbacks that can get it done in his offense. That defense needs a lot of work, but they do put out effort. What you are seeing with the Cardinals defense is a clear lack of talented depth and adjusting to playing along a tempo offense.
However, this is still year one for Satterfield, and he’s got the Cards going in the right direction.
The diner was closed, so no Pitt Specials this week. This is going to be a fun team to watch down the stretch the rest of the season. No one can come back or blow a lead quite like the Pitt Panthers.
On a more serious note, no one can rush the passer quite like the Panthers either. Anytime you can get home with four, and play coverage behind that four you have a chance to slow down some good offenses. The issue for Pitt is they aren’t great behind that four, and they don’t have much depth behind that front-four.
Offensively they don’t have that traditional great running back like they’ve had in the past. Kenny Pickett has been a volume passer in this Pitt offense. They have a manageable schedule down the stretch that starts with hosting Miami. Hope you’re hungry, Pat Narduzi and the Panthers are sure to serve a lot of Pitt Specials the rest of this season.
Well, the ROY bus came out for a farewell tour during the bye week. Clemson had to make sure everyone didn’t forget who it was. Clemson is the best team in college football. That’s not to say they aren’t beatable, but make no mistake Clemson reminded everyone who they are against Florida State. Trevor “Sunshine” Lawrence threw three touchdown passes and they gashed the Seminole defense for 320 rushing yards.
The unit that’s played consistent continued their dominant play as they held the Seminoles to 253 yards of total offense; most of which came on two plays. Just in case ya’ll forgot, you don’t want Clemson on the ROY bus.
