Florida Football: 3 takeaways from gutsy win at South Carolina
1. Kyle Trask is about as reliable as they come
When Feleipe Franks went down with an ugly injury, fans were already sounding off on the doom and gloom for the rest of the season. Florida wasn’t going to contend for anything, right?
Wrong.
The Gators have been just as good offensively, if not better, as they were with Franks under center. Kyle Trask has been the savior under center and he’s been about as reliable as any backup quarterback and former two-star recruit could ever be.
Everyone, including myself, just assumed Emory Jones would get the nod to replace Franks, but Trask took over in that Kentucky game and led the come-from-behind win. He has since led the Gators to a 7-1 record after a huge road win over South Carolina and the Gamecocks had all the confidence in the world coming off an upset of Georgia in Athens.
Trask finished the game with just 200 yards, but he was incredibly efficient on 21-of-33 passing with four touchdowns and an interception. He doesn’t make many mistakes and is playing like a four-year starter right now.
Florida has a chance to win the SEC because of Trask and the fact that he has led the Gators to absolutely no drop-off after Franks.
