3. 2005 Texas Longhorns

Before Texas went wherever they are now (are they back yet?), Vince Young was leading the 2005 Longhorns to the National Championship. He was flanked by some exceptional talent too, though, with the likes of Jamaal Charles, Michael Griffin and Michael Huff as running mates.

Young finished second in the Heisman Trophy race, but he did lead the No. 1 scoring offense to a victory in the National Championship over the guy who did win it. In addition to the guys mentioned above, head coach Mack Brown had a solid mix of youth and experience on the roster that included Aaron Ross, Cedric Griffin, Brian Orakpo, Ramonce Taylor, Limas Sweed, Selvin Young, Quan Cosby and many others.

The Heisman runner-up was just a junior, and although he was picked early in the 2006 NFL Draft, it’s possible he could be swayed on a video game to return. Couple that with the fact that Charles — one of the fastest players in the country — was just a freshman and the Longhorns would’ve been a tough out for at least the next few seasons, as long as Mack Brown didn’t leave.
