ACC Football Power Rankings, Week 14: Don’t sleep on Virginia Tech
By Dante Pryor
Speaking of schools that don’t want anything nice, these Hurricanes are difficult to figure out. On the one had, they are young an inexperienced in some key areas on offense, but their defense was supposed to be the truth. Of all the teams to lose to, Florida International? This is one of those “rivalries that really ain’t” or at least it should be.
Miami might be young, but there’s no way that defense should have given up 30 points to Florida International. They should be able to drown their sorrows against Duke, but they also lost to Georgia Tech this season, so there’s that.
Here at headquarters looking on our model of Bobby Dodd Stadium made of popsicle sticks and Bazooka Gum wrappers — we have a staff with no life — we decided the Yellow Jackets needed an award in honor of having two conference wins this season, one of which was on the road.
So, in honor of the Yellow Jackets winning twice in the ACC, one in each division, we give you this No. 9 ranking, and the “One Day at a Time” Award. Oh, the trophy, plaque or medal is in the works, or in the mail; we don’t know which because we don’t know what it looks like.
In case you forgot or didn’t know, Sam Howell is a legend and the best player in the history of North Carolina football. Who? LT? We have no knowledge of him. Anyways, Mack Brown has done an outstanding job with the Tar Heels this season. Much like the Cardinals that are further down this list, they were coached by someone who didn’t like the players and didn’t really want to be there. Brown got there and made it about the players, and the players responded. They get their in-state rivals to end the season on the road. Home or road doesn’t matter, the Wolfpack aren’t very good at football.
We do wonder if interim head coach Odell Haggins has any shot at being the next head coach at Florida State University — he might if he beats the Gators this weekend. If Florida State sweeps the state of Florida — they need a trophy by the way — he should at least get an interview.
The Seminoles have looked better. They have a long way to go to get the program anywhere near where they were during the Bobby Bowden era. Haggins, however, is FSU through and through. We aren’t stumping for him to get the job, but at least talk to the guy to see if he might have a vision for the program. Clemson did with Dabo Swinney — we’re just saying.
