Florida Football: 3 takeaways from dominant rivalry win over Florida State
2. Florida’s had a tough year on the ground
Heading into Saturday’s game against Florida State, the Gators ranked 122nd nationally in rushing yards per game with just over 100 and that number will take even more of a hit after a 77-yard performance against the Seminoles.
Florida seemed to abandon the run game and that was relatively evident when the final stats came out and backup quarterback Emory Jones was the leading rusher.
Jones actually had two more carries than the next-closest rusher Dameon Pierce and he had 15 more yards than Lamical Perine who finished with 18 on four touches. Jones was one of three rushers to break 10 yards, Perine was the other and starting quarterback Kyle Trask was the third. This wasn’t the ideal performance from the run game.
Before the season, it seemed as if Florida’s rushing attack would be a strength with a handful of talented rushers in the backfield, led by Perine and Pierce, but it’s been anything but.
Florida may want to get back to the drawing board this offseason to figure out a more balanced attack on offense.
