Florida Football: Studs, duds and thuds from the 2019 season
By Dakota Cox
Duds
C.J. Henderson
Going into the season, we thought C.J. Henderson would be the best defensive back in college football. The simple truth is that he fell far short of that mark this season. He’s good in coverage, but he failed to live up to the excessive hype. Many will point to his struggles to tackle in the open field, although I believe this is overstated.
Winning the big game
If Florida wanted to win the SEC this season, it was going to take a few improbable wins. They got a couple of them, including a win against Auburn. However, they lost the two biggest games of their season against Georgia and LSU. Those losses are what inevitably cost them their playoff hopes.
Feliepe Franks
It might be rude to call Franks a dud after his devastating injury, but the sad truth is that he couldn’t get it done while he was healthy. If he got to play an entire season, the Gators might not be where they are.
Kadarius Toney
In Florida’s first game, it seemed like Kadarius Toney could be an X-factor for the Gators this season. It was only one play, but his touchdown against Miami was a glimpse at where his ceiling was. However, an early injury limited his touches this year, and he didn’t play as well when he was finally back. It unfortunately seems to have been just a flash in the pan for this year. We’ll have to wait to see what his football future entails.
