ACC Football: Top 10 recruits joining the conference in 2020
By Dante Pryor
When the ROY bus pulled up at Georgia Tech, we were both impressed and proven wrong by second-year head coach Geoff Collins.
We were impressed that the Yellow Jackets hauled in the fifth-best class in the conference and the 26th-rated class in the country. Those numbers instantly prove that you can recruit at a high level to Georgia Tech despite their academic limitations. This was quite the class in his second recruiting cycle and first after a full year as head coach.
The expectation in Atlanta is they will field a young squad against this season with different expectations, however. Many of last season’s players were holdovers from the Paul Johnson era. Collins had players experienced running the triple-option offense. This year, he has players that fit his system much better in a class that includes five four-star recruits.
The recruit that has the opportunity to have an immediate impact as a true freshman is four-star quarterback Jeff Sims. At 6-3 and 205 pounds, he already has ideal size for Collins’ pro-style offense. Sims, who they flipped from Florida State, will have every opportunity to start next season.
Putting on the tape of Sims, it’s ironic he wears No. 10. He plays a lot like former Texas star quarterback Vince Young. Even with three young quarterbacks on the roster, Sims might be the best quarterback on campus.
