Joining Shane Lee on the Tide defense for the first time last season was redshirt freshman Christian Barmore. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound defensive lineman only played in a reserve role after being redshirted in 2018, but he still appeared in 12 games and made an impact a season ago.

Barmore’s six tackles-for-loss ranked fifth on the Crimson Tide defense, but he also totaled 26 tackles, two sacks, and two pass deflections. The league’s coaches named him to the freshman All-SEC team, too, recognizing him for his production in his limited role.

With the departure of senior leader Raekwon Davis along the defensive line, there’s a gaping hole waiting to be filled. Barmore’s similar to Davis (6-foot-7, 310 pounds) in size, and with another offseason training and developing, he could blossom into a player just like him. Barmore was a four-star prospect when recruited out of Philadelphia and was considered one of the top lineman prospects in the nation.
