Oklahoma football: 3 potential transfer destinations for Trey Sermon
By Phil Poling
3. Georgia Bulldogs
With the departures of running backs D’Andre Swift and Brian Herrien, the Georgia Bulldogs could be seeking help in the backfield for 2020. It’s not completely depleted, as Zamir White returns for his sophomore season and Kendall Milton joins the program as a four-star recruit in the most recent recruiting class, but neither have the experience Sermon brings to the table.

The immediate connection between Georgia and Sermon is that it’s his home state. But he is at a position of need, especially with so much turnover on the Bulldog offense. The Bulldogs’ primary recruiter when chasing Sermon the first time around is still at Georgia, too — running game coordinator and running backs coach Dell McGee. And while there’s some youth in the backfield already, Sermon could be the stabilizer head coach Kirby Smart needs to keep the Bulldogs afloat early in the season.
The slate of opponents Sermon would face as a member of the Bulldogs would be a bit different than those at Oklahoma, though, but it might be catered more closely to his play style. The Big 12 is very wide open, especially at Oklahoma where Sooner quarterbacks have won two of the last three Heisman Trophies; the SEC would provide a more down-hill approach that could highlight Sermon’s power and balance.
If Georgia is on Sermon’s short list of potential transfer destinations, he’d be an excellent fit. He wouldn’t need to shoulder the entire load, which bodes well for him coming off of an injury, but he could see a sizable chunk of touches with young players surrounding him on the Bulldogs’ offense.
