2. Louisville Cardinals

Going into last season, I have to admit that I thought that Louisville would win maybe two games, despite having significant respect for what Scott Satterfield had built and maintained at App State. That is how big of a mess that Bobby Petrino left behind after his second stint as the Cardinals’ head coach (in their defense, Petrino leaves a mess literally everywhere he goes).

In response, Satterfield turned in one of the best coaching jobs in all of the country last season, finishing 8-5 and coming in second place in the Atlantic division.

With the 13th-most returning production in the country this season, including quarterback Micale Cunningham and speedy receiver Tutu Atwell, it’s easy to see why there are some, including myself, that think Louisville could be in for even more improvement in their second season.

Another thing that is worth keeping an eye on: On the surface it appears that Louisville has a very manageable schedule. An early trip to Clemson in Week 2 and a late season trip to Notre Dame will be their biggest tests, but every other game is very winnable.

I’m not saying that the Cardinals are ready to win the ACC, but I don’t think that nine and maybe 10 wins are totally out of the question this upcoming season.
