1. Who will be QB1?

Taulia Tagovailoa has entered the transfer portal so he is not going to be part of this quarterback competition. This season’s starting quarterback will either be Mac Jones or five-star freshman Bryce Young.

Jones finished the season after Tua Tagovailoa injured his hip. He finished the season throwing for 1,500 yards and 14 touchdowns. Jones is a smart player who can do anything asked of him. He knows the playbook and has been in the system for three years.

Young is a dynamic two-way quarterback who is a difference-maker. The Mater Dei alum enrolled early at Alabama. Unfortunately, it was of little benefit due to the pandemic. The competition will be interesting when teams can resume their practices.

The starting quarterback will be determined by what Nick Saban and his offensive staff want to be next season. Mac Jones can distribute the ball to those gifted receivers, but can he make plays when things break down.

With Young, freshmen make mistakes. Will he be ready for the start of the season? He is more of a playmaker than Jones, but that does come with some risk as well.

If Nick Saban thinks the defense is good enough and does not want the risk that comes with playing a freshman, Jones may start. However, Young just might take the job, too.
