He and his staff have taken a unique approach to recruiting. They find their kind of player and get them bigger, faster, and stronger. There have been players recently that were not on anyone’s recruiting radar that went on to have great college careers.
When you have a program like Kentucky, the expectation is for young guys not to play immediately. To supplement player development programs look to the Junior College ranks to find quality players who can come in right away and play.
For the Wildcats, Jeremy Flax is one of those players. Kentucky has a lot of returning talent, but Flax is the No. 1 rated offensive tackle from the JUCO ranks. When you look at the Detroit, Mich., native, immediately you are impressed by his physical size.
In addition to his size, he is nimble. Flax has good feet and get-off on the snap. He does not lunge or reach but engages defenders. Once he gets his hands on a defender it is game over. It is not easy to get around Flax because of his size either.
Expect Flax to come in and compete for the starting tackle job this season.
