Miami Football: Ranking Hurricanes’ 2020 opponents by toughness
In what should be dubbed “The Manny Diaz Bowl”, Miami will welcome the Temple Owls into South Beach for the opening week of the college football season. Temple had a fine season in 2019, but had a disappointing end to the season with a blowout loss to North Carolina and that put a damper on what was otherwise a fine season for the Owls.
This game is ranked where it is in part due to how bad the Owls looked in the finale last season and that Miami will have a big talent and athletic edge over the Owls. I expect Temple to be a contender in the AAC, but expect the Hurricanes to win comfortably here.
Last year’s winner of the ACC Coastal, the Cavaliers will be going through a bit of a transition with veteran quarterback Bryce Perkins using up all of his eligibility and defensive back Bryce Hall is also in the NFL and it will be interesting to see how the Cavaliers will look this season with so many new faces on both sides of the ball.
Charlottesville can be a tricky place to play and the last time the Hurricanes were there, Virginia was able to pull off the upset due to poor quarterback play. I think D’Eriq King and the offense will be clicking and Virginia won’t have the firepower to keep up. Bronco Mendenhall is an excellent coach and this is definitely an upset watch for the Hurricanes on the road on Halloween.
