3. TCU Horned Frogs

Much like the Florida Gators, the TCU Horned Frogs are also a team that utilizes a multiple-schemed offense that uses unique and versatile playmakers. They have an offense that has benefitted from dual-threat quarterbacks and multi-purposeful receivers.

JD Spielman is a slot receiver who fits into the multi-offensive schemes of quick passes and jet sweeps.

The Horned Frogs are an offense that could use more high-caliber talent throughout the field. TCU returns only three starters from last year’s offense that was ranked 56th in points per game (30.3) and 90th in passing yards per game (199.7). The Horned Frogs return two of their top five wide receivers from last season including Taye Barber, who caught 29 passes for 372 yards but no touchdowns.

TCU needs as much help in the receiver corps as possible this 2020 season with experience.

As a versatile playmaker, Spielman has rarely been given the ball in rushing plays as a jet sweep receiver. In three seasons of playing for the Cornhuskers, he rushed the ball 21 times for 128 yards. Offensive coordinator Sonny Cumbie could utilize more of a dynamic run scheme as well as more unique routes to make the deep passing game more essential.

Last season, the Horned Frogs finished with a 5-7 record but are expected to return to impact the Big 12 race in 2020.

After a solid offseason of recruiting, the Horned Frogs might push for a win-now motive for 2020 especially if a talented offensive playmaker like Spielman comes to campus in Fort Worth.
