Oklahoma came into the 2009 season fresh off of a national championship appearance and quarterback Sam Bradford had just won the Heisman Trophy and was hoping to try and be the second player to ever win the award twice. Oklahoma’s title dreams and Bradford’s Heisman chances came to screeching halt in the opening weekend neutral site matchup against the 20th-ranked BYU Cougars after Bradford took a hard hit and badly injured his right shoulder.
Oklahoma would go on to lose a tough game after Bradford exited the game and Oklahoma’s season took on a different trajectory. If Bradford does not get hurt, there is a good chance that Oklahoma could go on to make another appearance in the national championship and may win it.
This was one of the most unfortunate injuries in college football history and as a fan of the sport and admirer of elite quarterback play, I wish that Bradford had never gotten injured.
