Games 1-3 of Florida football’s ideal schedule

Kicking off the season with the toughest game on the schedule has to be ideal for most teams, especially since that elite opponent will likely be going through some growing pains with a new quarterback under center.

Georgia loses steady starter Jake Fromm and brings in Jamie Newman and JT Daniels to compete for the starting quarterback job and D’Andre Swift has also moved on to the NFL. This would be a winnable game for the Gators to start the season with a more experienced team.

Seeing South Carolina in Week 2 wouldn’t be the worst thing, especially since it’s at home and the Gamecocks aren’t projected to be all that great in 2020.

Will Muschamp is on the hot seat, the offense was in shambles last year and the defense could use major improvements as well. This team may be better than its 4-8 record last season, but not by much and that’ll be a good situation for Florida, especially if it gains momentum from a win over Georgia.

Kentucky might be one of the sneaky tough games on the schedule, but the Gators get the Wildcats at home and it wouldn’t be the worst thing to follow up a nearly sure-win against South Carolina with a home matchup against a potential darkhorse contender.

The Wildcats bring back Terry Wilson from injury, but he’ll be pushed by Auburn transfer Joey Gatewood under center. Asim Rose and Kavosiey Smoke will help replace a departing Lynn Bowden Jr. and the defense should be solid once again.

Getting Kentucky closer to the beginning of the year before it catches fire would be ideal.
