The SEC is loaded with talented quarterbacks so it’ll be tough for KJ Costello to earn all-conference honors, but with Mike Leach calling plays, he is primed for a huge season.

Under Leach’s air-raid system Anthony Gordon, Gardner Minshew, Luke Falk, Connor Halliday and plenty of other guys who weren’t heavily recruited all put up monster numbers. Costello might be the most talented guy Leach has coached and this duo seems like a great fit.

Costello is a former four-star recruit and in 2018 threw for 3,540 yards and 29 touchdowns. His 2018 season landed him second all-time in single-season passing yards for Stanford. After an injury-riddled 2019 season, Costello opted to grad transfer to join Leach in Starkville.

Costello is a polished passer who should thrive with Leach. The lack of talent at the receiver position is something that is a bit concerning but I think Leach’s system will get the most out of the guys that are there. Having a dude in Kylin Hill to drop screens off to is a major plus, though.

Expect Costello to be slinging the ball all year and putting up monster numbers every week.
