College football’s 10 most intriguing transfers to watch in 2020
The most intriguing man on this list has had quite the journey to his new school. Coming out of the famed Mater Dei High School and dominating on the field since his freshman year, it was almost certain that USC, the program the recruited past stars from the school such as Matt Barkley and Matt Leinart, would be JT Daniels’ school of choice.
Daniels landed at USC at a peculiar time for the program after coming off a good season that ended in a tough loss to Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl. There where great expectations for USC and third-year head coach Clay Helton.
Daniels’ freshman season was disappointing in terms of team success going 5-7, leaving Helton on the hot seat but he had a pretty good season statistically. He threw for 2,672 yards, 14 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. In his last two games against Notre Dame and UCLA, he threw for over 300 yards in each.
Unfortunately, Daniels tore his ACL in the first game of the 2019 season and after another disappointing season by USC standards, he decided a change of scenery was necessary.
Daniels shocked everyone by transferring to Athens to play for the Georgia Bulldogs. Even more shocking, the NCAA gave him a wavier to make him immediately eligibility to compete for the QB1 spot against Wake Forest transfer Jamie Newman.
This will be a fierce competition to watch all of fall camp.
If Daniels can win the spot over Newman and stay healthy and productive for the Bulldogs in the new air-raid offense, he has the chance to potentially play himself into being a top 10 draft pick.
