No quarterback on this list fits the dual-threat moniker quite like this guy. D’Eriq King’s junior season was electric and showed Houston fans what former coach Tom Herman saw in him.

King’s 2018 season consisted of 2,982 yards in the air, 674 yards on the ground with 36 and 14 touchdowns passing and rushing, respectively, causing havoc all season long. King earned second-team All-AAC honors for his performance as well. All from someone who had no reps at quarterback due to playing wide receiver his first season at Houston.

Despite this spectacular season, it was cut short after he suffered a non-contact knee injury in the 11th game of the year.

Heading into his senior season, King played in just four games before deciding to shut it down for the rest of the season and opting to redshirt to keep one year of eligibility.

King’s ability to pass and run the ball makes him a threat to any defensive coordinator’s game plan. It will be a change of pace for the Hurricanes who’ve had trouble finding a permanent starter behind center.

The Hurricanes are poised to be a sleeper pick in a usually weak coastal division of the ACC. If King can still keep defenses guessing, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them in the ACC title game.
