ACC football power rankings, Week 3: Clemson looks dominant yet again
By Dante Pryor
15. Syracuse Orange (0-1)
As we were watching this one at headquarters, a masked voice whispered, “If Dino Babers had any offers to go elsewhere after their 10-win season, he should have taken the offer.” Maybe the voice was right. As we looked to see who said it, the mask had some sort of wild cat. Similar to a leopard or jaguar.
We could not agree more with that voice. Babers is a great coach in a bad situation. Syracuse is not what it once was. They do not play in the Big East anymore. They recruit in one of the poorest footprints in the country, and it seems as if any player with talent from the state does not choose the Orange. The latter Syracuse should hold Babers accountable.
Their performance against North Carolina was just flat. Granted, nearly everyone gets somewhat of a pass because of the pandemic, but they did not look sharp at all. Their offensive line looked overmatched at times, and their defensive line hardly touched North Carolina quarterback Sam Howell.
Syracuse quarterback Tommy DeVito led the Orange in rushing because he ran for his life most of the game. Hopefully, this is not a harbinger of things to come for the Orange.
If Babers does not get this turned around, he’ll be out at Syracuse, whether he wants to or not.
