College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 6
By Zach Bigalke
Miami is going to remain locked into a top-10 spot in the AP Top 25 heading into Week 6 even though they were idle in Week 5 play. The Hurricanes have built up a ton of goodwill during the period when the ACC was the biggest show playing at the FBS level, and Manny Diaz’s team consolidated that position a week ago when they crushed Florida State 52-10. That rivalry blowout was Miami’s third win of the year before October even turned.
Coming on the heels of an opening rout of UAB and a 13-point road win at Louisville, the Canes are 2-0 in ACC play and dominating on both sides of the ball. Houston transfer D’Eriq King has completely turned around the dismal quarterback situation after hooking up with new offensive coordinator Rhett Lashlee in the first year in Coral Gables for both men. The defense pulled out the Turnover Chain a half-dozen times in their first three games along with 31 tackles behind the line.
Also working in Miami’s favor is a crucial week of rest and preparation before they head to Death Valley for a pivotal ACC showdown against defending champion Clemson. If the Hurricanes win on the road in South Carolina, look for Miami to vault into top-four position in the following AP Top 25.
