2. All three aspects of the game wins it for the Cyclones

Many teams across the country have deep skill player positions, that can make plays when they need them the most. Iowa State, offensively won tonight with their big body receivers that made big plays.

Players like 6-foot-6 Charlie Kolar, 6-foot-3 Tarique Milton, 6-foot-7 Chase Allen and 6-foot-3 Xavier Hutchinson. Although Purdy did not have his best game, completing just 50 percent of his passes, his big body receivers made big plays when it was needed.

The defense held OU’s running game to just 3.5 yards per carry. Although, they gave up 300 passing yards to Rattler, the most important stat was the interception by Isheem Young, the very first of the freshman’s career.

Special Teams is the difference maker in many games, including this one. a big return from Nwangwu and 3-for-3 field goals from Cody Assalley.

Ames has been notorious for upsets, especially when Iowa State wears all-black uniforms. 2018, it was West Virginia. Last season, it was Texas. Oklahoma is the victim this time around, as the Cyclones, even when they were losing early, came through when needed in all three facets of the game.
