14. Florida State Seminoles (1-2, 0-2)
The fact that Florida State was down 21-7 in the second quarter to FCS Jacksonville State and proceeded to surrender three points to the only other teams nicknamed the Gamecocks in Division-I football is all you need to know about the issues at Florida State.
The slow start is indicative of the coaching turnover and lack of extended practice. Also, it speaks of a culture that has yet to turn. The Seminoles should dominate an opponent like Jacksonville State from start to finish. Even Wake Forest dominated their FCS opponent.
When the Seminoles finally awakened, they dominated the Gamecocks — the ones from Alabama, not South Carolina. The running game finally woke up with the Seminoles rushing for 263 yards and 5.0 yards per carry. It was Jordan Travis, not Tate Rodemaker who led the Seminoles passing attack throwing for 210 yards. Florida State’s talent flashed for the first time all season albeit against an FCS team.
This week, the Seminoles get Notre Dame. They should lose this game; the Irish are better. However, let’s see how well they compete. It’s easy to blow out an inferior opponent. When they face adversity early, will they respond or fold as they did against Miami?
