College Football 2020: 5 bold predictions for Week 6 action
5. Duke gets its first win of the season against Syracuse
There are two teams from Power Five conferences (outside of the SEC) that have yet to account for a win. Those two teams are the Kansas Jayhawks (0-3) and the Duke Blue Devils (0-4, 0-4 ACC). The Blue Devils have not had an easy start to the season as they started with a 27-13 loss at No. 10 Notre Dame in Week 2. They have then suffered losses to Boston College, at Virginia and to Virginia Tech.
Their current record really doesn’t indicate how good they truly are. They will get their first win of the season when they travel to face Syracuse (1-2, 1-2 ACC). Former Clemson Tiger and Blue Devils starting quarterback Chase Brice hasn’t had the best transition. HE has thrown for three touchdowns and seven interceptions four games into the season.
The Blue Devils do have an impressive running game with running backs Deon Jackson and Mataeo Durant. Duke’s offense averages 17.5 points per game in four games this season. Head coach David Cutcliffe is too good of an offensive coach to let his offense regress so significantly. Expect better performance from the Blue Devils’ offense going forward.
Defensively, the Blue Devils will have to be more efficient in stopping the opposing offenses as they allow an average of 32.3 points per game.
