Florida Football: 3 reasons the Gators will beat Texas A&M in Week 6
1. The Aggies lack a high-powered offense like Florida’s
Much like the Aggies play towards the strength of their defense by winning matchups, their offense focuses on key plays through significant matchups. Senior quarterback Kellen Mond has been a player that wins games and winning series for the Aggies. He is not the quarterback that will consistently light up the scoreboard as Kyle Trask does for the Gators.
The Aggies’ offense is ranked 10th in the SEC in points per game (21.5) and eighth in the SEC in total yards per game (411). They don’t have the electricity that the Gators possess on the offensive side of the ball. The Aggies have thrown two interceptions and fumbled the ball three times. The Gators’ offense has only accounted for three turnovers in the two games so far this season.
Florida’s defense needs to be polished up a little bit on certain portions of the game. They have the playmakers to stop a dual-threat quarterback such as Mond with Ventrell Miller and Brenton Cox at linebacker. In the secondary, the Gators keep reloading some valuable players such as cornerback Marco Wilson. He is one of the most reliable man coverage cornerbacks in the SEC.
The Gators have a dynamic playmaker on defense in Kaiir Elam, who has accounted for 15 total tackles and three pass deflections.
It will be difficult for Texas A&M to consistently win matchups with great playmakers on the Gators’ defense much like they had problems consistently finding areas to win against Alabama’s defense in the previous week.
