College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 7
By Zach Bigalke
We learned in Week 6 that Miami isn’t quite back to its dominant pedigree. The Hurricanes went to South Carolina to face defending ACC champion Clemson, and they retreated back to Coral Gables after a 42-17 beatdown where the Tigers exerted their will in all phases of the game. It won’t completely eliminate Manny Diaz’s team from the conference race, but they will drop out of the top 10 of the AP Top 25 this week as a result of the loss.
D’Eriq King looked downright dismal against the Clemson defense, throwing for only 121 yards with two interceptions on 12-of-28 passing. King did compile 84 rushing yards and a touchdown to lead the Hurricanes on the ground, but Miami ultimately finished with only 210 total yards. When the defense was on the field, they gave up 292 yards to Trevor Lawrence through the air and another 149 rushing yards to Travis Etienne and company.
Miami can dust itself off at home over the next few weeks, with Pittsburgh coming to south Florida in Week 7 and Virginia visiting the following week. If the Hurricanes can win out, they will almost certainly get a rematch against Clemson in December.
