Notre Dame Football: 3 takeaways from comfortable win over Florida State
1. Notre Dame’s run game was unstoppable
If Notre Dame can continue rushing the ball the way it has the past two games, the Irish will continue to cause headaches in the ACC.
Saturday was a dominant performance by both Kyren Williams and Chris Tyree. Both Notre Dame running backs rushed for over 100 yards and put points on the board for the Irish. The duo of Williams and Tyree averaged nearly 9.5 yards per carry. The Irish as a whole had nine carries that went for 10-plus yards.
This wasn’t a type of running attack that controlled clock and kept the FSU offense on the sideline. This was the type of running attack that gave out haymakers and made huge chunk plays all night. Ian Book is also keeping defenses honest with his rushing ability, as he was able to churn out 58 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
A team always needs to hone it on its identity and know what their strengths are. It is still a bit early in the season, but it looks as if Notre Dame is finding its identity on the ground. With arguably the best offensive line in the nation, they won’t run into many obstacles pounding the rock.
