College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 8
By Zach Bigalke
In the second quarter of their Friday-night showdown at Houston, BYU looked like midnight might finally be pealing on their Cinderella story. After taking a 14-3 lead in the first quarter against their American Athletic Conference hosts, BYU gave up 17 unanswered points in the second frame to fall behind 20-14 at the half. Adjusting at the intermission, though, Kalani Sitake’s team ran away with a 43-26 victory on the road.
Zach Wilson was once again an efficient, deadly quarterback for the Cougars. Completing 25 of his 35 attempts, Wilson finished with 400 yards and four passing touchdowns while avoiding turnovers. The quarterback added 40 rushing yards — an area where BYU had some concerns, given Wilson’s mark led the team on the ground. Tyler Allgeier and Lopini Katoa finished with just 36 combined yards on 13 carries, though each scored a touchdown.
BYU closes out the month with home dates against Texas State and Western Kentucky, two games that won’t likely tip the scales much further for AP voters. Still, the Cougars should remain comfortably in the top 15 by the time of their November 6 showdown at Boise State.
