College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 9
By Zach Bigalke
BYU looks prepared to continue their undefeated streak going in 2020 with a takedown of Texas State in Provo in the late game on Saturday night. In the process the Cougars will join an exclusive group of teams that has already reached 6-0 before the end of October, thanks in large part to one of the most dynamic offenses in the entire country.
The catalyst for the surge has been a healthy Zach Wilson. After several years suffering through injuries, Wilson came into the game against the Bobcats completing 78.7 percent of his passes and averaging 328 yards per game with 12 touchdowns against a single interception. Buttressed by a ground attack featuring twin threats Tyler Allgeier and Lopini Katoa, the Cougars were simply too much to handle for a Texas State team that came to Provo with a 1-5 record.
For BYU, the biggest issue as the season advances will be the ceiling created by a much-weakened strength of schedule. A schedule that originally featured six Power Five opponents lost every one of those challenges from the equation. That will remain a concern in Week 9 when 2-4 Western Kentucky comes to LaVell Edwards Stadium for a Halloween clash with the Cougars.
