College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 9
By Zach Bigalke
After opening Week 8 as the top team among others receiving votes in the AP Top 25, Memphis played its way back into the poll with a 41-29 victory over Temple at home on Saturday. The Tigers kept themselves in the American Athletic Conference race on a day when two teams fell from the ranks of the unbeaten in league play. That should be enough to land them somewhere in the low 20s when the poll releases for Week 9 play on Sunday.
Brady White completed only 17 of his 36 passing attempts, but finished with 313 yards and four touchdowns through the air. Calvin Austin III caught six of those passes for 186 yards and a score, while Tajh Washington hauled in two scoring strikes. Rodrigues Clark dominated once again on the ground, racking up 106 yards on 22 carries. The defense allowed Anthony Russo to throw for 387 yards and four scores, but also picked off the Temple quarterback three times in the win.
A rematch of last year’s AAC championship game headlines Week 9 action in the conference, with Memphis heading to Nippert Stadium to take on Cincinnati. If the Tigers can take down the Bearcats on the road, they will put themselves in phenomenal position to push for a chance to defend their title.
