College Football Rankings 2020: Projected AP Top 25 for Week 10
By Zach Bigalke
A COVID-19 outbreak in the Badgers locker room forced the cancellation of Wisconsin’s trip to Lincoln to face Nebraska in a Big Ten West clash on Saturday. With at least 16 players and staff contracting the virus to date, it was considered irresponsible to go on the road. While some criticize the Big Ten’s heightened caution built into their protocols, the first concern is the health of all participating.
That eliminates one game from Wisconsin’s schedule this season, which may or may not hurt their position in the polls and in the eyes of College Football Playoff selectors. Should outbreaks continue around the league and force more cancellations, it will raise more questions about whether the Big Ten’s decision to return was the right one.
If the Badgers can get things under control in Madison and prevent further spread of the coronavirus through the roster, they are due to play next on November 7 at home against Purdue. If more players contract the virus, it could put a large portion of Wisconsin’s season in jeopardy given the 21-day isolation period under Big Ten rules.
